    Application steps

    Substrate Preparation
The substrate must be devoid of oils, grease, dust, and loose or friable particles, and it must be clean, dry, sound, and uniform. Sikaflex®-1A PLUS attaches without the need of primers or activators.
However, the following priming and pre-treatment methods must be performed for optimum adhesion and crucial, high-performance applications, such as multi-story structures, highly stressed joints, harsh weather exposure, or water immersion:
    Non-porous substrates
Aluminum, anodized aluminum, stainless steel, galvanized steel, powder-coated metals, and glazed tiles must be cleaned and pre-treated with Sika® Aktivator-205 before being wiped clean. Allow for a flash-off duration of at least 15 minutes (6 hours) before sealing.
Other metals, such as copper, brass, and titanium-zinc, must be cleaned and pre-treated with Sika® Aktivator-205 before being wiped clean. After the required flash-off time, apply Sika® Primer-3 N with a brush and allow a further flash-off time of > 30 minutes (8 hours) before sealing the joints.
Sika® Primer-215, which is applied with a brush, must be cleaned and pre-treated on PVC. Allow for a flash-off duration of at least 30 minutes (8 hours) before sealing.

    Porous substrates

Sika® Primer-3 N, applied with a brush, should be used to prime concrete, aerated concrete, cement-based renders, mortars, and bricks. Allow for a flash-off duration of at least 30 minutes (8 hours) before sealing.

    Cleaning of Tools

Sika® Remover-208 and Sika® Cleaning Wipes-100 should be used immediately after use to clean all instruments and application equipment. Once the leftover substance has cured, it can only be removed manually.

    Shelf Life

Sikaflex®-1A PLUS Joint Sealant has a shelf life of 15 months if stored in undamaged, original, unopened packaging and meets the storage criteria.
